Luigi Mangione, the 26-year-old man suspected of shooting and killing UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in midtown Manhattan, was apprehended by law enforcement officials on December 9 after a five-day search. Photos of Mangione in police custody were then circulated online, and some celebrities … liked what they saw.
“Does he need a cellmate?” musician Orville Peck commented on an Instagram post that showed several photos of Mangione before the shooting occurred on December 4, including a shirtless snap that showed off his abs.
Stephen Colbert addressed the internet’s infatuation with Mangione during the December 9 episode of The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.
“This story started tragic, but then it very quickly [became] weird, because when authorities initially released security photos of the suspect, the internet reaction was swift and horny,” Colbert said.

Caroline Calloway
The author and social media personality claimed to have a personal connection to Mangione.
“OMG GUYS I LITERALLY F—ED THE UNITED HEALTHCARE CEO ASSASSIN,” Calloway wrote via X the same day Mangione was taken into police custody.
She added in a subsequent tweet: “Ok technically he was not an assassin when we f—ed. … That I know of. But still!!!!”
Jimmy Kimmel
Kimmel cracked jokes about Mangione during an episode of his titular late-night talk show.
“I think we can all agree that no one could have imagined this suspect would have a name as funny as Luigi Mangione,” he said. “With a lot of murderers — or alleged murderers — when you arrest them, you have to use the middle name. Like, we don’t need Luigi Wayne Mangione, it’s not necessary.”
Antonio Brown
The former wide receiver joked that NFL sports agent Sean Stellato, who went viral last year due to his suits and fedoras, must be Mangione’s lawyer due to their shared Italian heritage.
“Yes I’m calling on behalf of my client, Luigi Mangione,” Brown captioned an X photo of Stellato on a phone call.
Kevin McHale
The Glee alum quoted a tweet with shirtless photos of Mangione, adding, “👀.”
Ezra Sosa
Dancing With the Stars pro Ezra Sosa, who was partnered with convicted criminal Anna Delvey during season 33 of the reality competition series, joked that he could see Mangione appearing on the show.
“He finna be my partner season 34 🥵🙂↔️🤤 #dwts,” Sosa captioned a TikTok video of himself shaking his head and smiling in front of a photo of Mangione.
Stephen Colbert
“You know [the] guy’s Italian because you could grate parmesan on those abs,” Colbert quipped during an episode of his talk show.
Orville Peck
Peck expressed interest in keeping Mangione company in jail.
“Does he need a cellmate?” the “Midnight Ride” singer commented on a photo of the suspected assassin.
