All I want for Christmas is a Tom Cruise cake!
But what is it?
In pop culture, this sweet confection is kind of a legend. So much so that the #tomcruisecake #tomcruisechristmascake and #cruisecake hashtags trend on social media during this time of year. And photos of this cake on Instagram are, forgive us, a-bundt-ant, as people and celebrities “beg” the “Top Gun: Maverick” star to send them one.
Quite simply, the “Tom Cruise cake” is a white chocolate coconut bundt cake with cream cheese frosting from Doan’s Bakery in California. It’s presented in a beautiful box with a fancy ribbon, ornament and a card to the chosen recipient: “Warmest wishes to you this holiday season. Tom Cruise”
The part-time Florida resident, who owns a condo in the Clearwater area, has talked about the “world famous Tom Cruise cake” on talk shows. Years ago, he sent one to friend James Corden, host of “The James Corden Show,” on the morning of the Grammy Awards.
Corden joked about eating the cake before hosting the Grammys. He told the story when the “Mission: Impossible” star was a guest on his show. Apparently, Cruise doesn’t partake in the Cruise cake: “I love sugar, but I can’t eat it because when I’m training, you know, I’m doing all these movies,” Cruise said on “James Corden Show.” “I like to send people cakes.” The veteran actor then apparently waits for the calls from people to tell him about it.
Cruise’s “Top Gun: Maverick” co-star Glen Powell also is a fan.
“One does not simply EAT the Tom Cruise Cake … one must EARN the Tom Cruise Cake,” the star said in an Instagram workout video featuring the cake (see below).
Powell also told talk show host Jennifer Hudson on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” that he hosts a “Cruise cake party” every December for friends “to try a bite or two of the Cruise cake.”
